Information Literacy

How I find and evaluate information.

I vet information constantly. After enough exposure to various leftist lenses I've developed a decent analysis of American institutional-ism. American culture changed to cater to the consumer following 1980 conservative politics. This phenomena is widely understudied and misunderstood, but can be summarized as the attempts of Reagan and Thatcher's administrations reinforcing/establishing American-styled consumerism and financial individuality to protect capital interests.

In practice that just means I look up the backgrounds of authors, contributors, and institutions when things look fishy. Its just that I'm doing that while already aware that the CIA regularly murders journalists and that financial institutions rule the world.

Now if you've ever wanted to become disillusioned in modern systems I'll introduce you to the basic steps:

Step 1. Pick a traded company or institution.
Step 2. Follow the chain of companies that own that company or institution.
Step 3. Look up the dividend history of that company.
Step 4. If the owner is a company, check its stock holders using the https://finance.yahoo.com/ or https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/
Step 5. Do the math.

Lastly I make a very conscious effort to keep divisive content in my feed. Following institutions, people, and pages that tend to show biased or opposing views is extremely important to an understanding of the people that follow said movements. Seeing the trends in certain sub-cultures can help to dissect and combat these views.
For instance the alpha-male trend occurring at the moment is being led by the same institutions that combat both LGBT rights and Feminist ideas, allowing all three to work together to push a culture of toxic masculinity and an oppressive feminine gender role. While this trend is evident in the present, we can see the creation of a supporting culture leading up to this trend: 1, the gendering of entertainment formats following Nintendo's destructive NES marketing campaign. 2, The alt-right pipeline, the tendency for algorithms to recommend reactive and bigoted content most notably through video game sub-cultures. 3, Pages like Barstool Sports, owned by conservative David Portnoy, promoting content that implies women are non-loyal and that men can improve themselves through masculine activities. In total leading to a growing renewal in said toxic-masculinity and the current reduction of LGBT and Reproductive rights.

Its an elaborate and difficult-to-prove theory, however it has proved massively influential in my writing. Presently I've been studying the idea of racism in the global age being more reflective of classism, alongside the social and historical influences that have led to that. This is then being reflected in my current piece, Prometheus Pyrkaios, as I explore the social dynamics of a society undergoing class oppression.
